Kabuki Scenes from Gappo ga tsuji

Comments - Handsome print depicting scenes from the kabuki play commonly known as "Gappo ga tsuji" (The Crossroads of Gappo). At lower left, the culminating scene takes place on a giant statue of Emma-o, the Buddhist deity of the underworld, outside a temple at the crossroads. Fighting to avenge his brother, the samurai turned monk Takahashi Gappo battling against many attackers. A wonderfully detailed mage.
