Comments - Fantastic depiction of Yoritomo's hunting party at the base of Mt. Fuji in 1193. A giant boar attacked the party and the brave Tadatsune killed the wild beast. Here, Tadatsune wrestles the snarling animal to the ground as he prepares to stab it with his short sword, its body pierced with arrows. Another warrior tumbles through the sky above, tossed by the boar high into the air, while others are crushed beneath its weight. At right, Yoritomo watches from a rocky outcropping, sheltered beneath a large red umbrella and surrounded by retainers. A dramatic composition with Mt. Fuji rising majestically in the background. Terrific detail and action in this incredible image. A classic samurai subject.
