Series; A Contest of Genpei Heroes

A Contest of Genpei Heroes - Unusual horizontal format Yoshikazu series depicting heroes of the Genpei War, fighting against their enemies. The bitter Genpei War took place between the rival Minamoto and Taira clans from 1180 to 1185. The war ended with the fall of the Taira and the establishment of the Kamakura Shogunate under Minamoto no Yoritomo in 1192. Each image depicts two full-length warriors fighting with swords or preparing for battle, with wonderful detail in the armor and weapons. A great choice for a collector interested in the samurai tradition.
