The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome woodblock from Yoshiiku's circa 1865 series based on the kabuki play "The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers" (Kanadehon Chushingura), which tells the fantastic story of the 47 ronin who avenged their master's death. This attractive series features the classic characters and scenes from this beloved tale, with lively color and the traditional dogtooth ronin's border. Some designs include burnishing on the black robes, a deluxe publishing technique. An interesting early Meiji era series depicting this timeless story of honor and revenge.
