Scene from Oshu Adachi-ga-Hara, 1862

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Ichizo III as the samurai Abe Muneto in the play "Oshu Adachi-ga-Hara" at the Morita Theater in Edo. He holds a bow in one hand a two arrows in the other, looking over his shoulder with a suspicious frown. He wears a boldly patterned green kimono over armor, both trimmed with fringe that swings with his movement, a lion adoring his chest plate. On the wall behind him, a bird with long tailfeathers flies across a blue sky framed by maple leaves. A nice expressive figure.

Artist - Yoshiiku (1833 - 1904)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Wrinkling throughout.
