Series; Portraits as True Likenesses in the Moonlight
Portraits of True Likenesses in the Moonlight - Handsome portrait from Yoshiiku's intriguing "True Likenesses in the Moonlight" series depicting famous kabuki actors in silhouette. The designs are sometimes referred to as "Moon shadow prints" and represent a shadow of the figure cast in tones of gray by the full moon. A scalloped cartouche inset at the top features the actor in a role. Each print is graphically interesting and compelling, from one of the great, unique early Meiji series. An unusual portrait format and a great subject for a kabuki enthusiast.
