Original Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Prince Genji with a Toy, 1854

From an untitled series of Inaka Genji illustrations

Inaka Genji illustrations - Charming design from an untitled series Inaka Genji illustrations. The character Inaka or Rustic Genji comes from the novel "A False Murasaki and a Rustic Genji" (Nise Murasaki inaka Genji), a parody of the beloved "Tale of Genji" which recounts the adventures of Mitsuuji, the rustic (or country) Genji. Each design features the young nobleman or beauties in handsome settings, with wonderful detail in the elegant fabrics and furnishings. A rarely seen series and a nice complement to Toyokuni III's other Genji series.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 1/8"

Condition - Nice detail. Some prints have a small repair.
