Scene from Hachiman Matsuri Yomiya no Nigiwa, 1860

Comments - Interesting portrait of Iwai Kumesaburo III as Otomi in the kabuki play Hachiman Matsuri Yomiya no Nigiwa, which premiered at the Ichimura Theater in Edo in 1860. She kneels beside a naga hibachi with kettles resting over glowing coals, a slender pipe in her hand. A window seat behind her holds plants in blue and white ceramic pots, and a black lacquer mirror rests atop a stand at left. Wonderful detail in the interior setting and furnishings.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 9 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Diagonal folds. A few small repairs, wrinkling throughout.
