Arguing on a Winter Day - Interesting kabuki scene of three men arguing inside a house on a winter day. The samurai in the center frowns angrily at the fellow at right, who stares ahead with a wild-eyed grin. He has a red robe draped over his shoulder patterned with a bird in flight. The man at left has dropped his black coat on the floor, pushing up his sleeve as he leans forward as if to attack the man at right. His companion in the center puts his hand out in a stopping motion, urging restraint. The room opens onto a lovely view of the river under falling snow against the night sky, a few boats visible and snow blanketing the trees on the opposite shore. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, Sawamura Tossho II, and Ichikawa Ichizo III. Nice detail in the setting.
