Scene from Minoriyoshi Kogane no Kikuzuki, 1850 - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Minoriyoshi Kogane no Kikuzuki" at the Naka Theater in Edo, a famous ghost story. At left, the beauty Gakun no Kosan holds hands with Omatsuri Kingoro, who throws one hand up in the air as he glares angrily at Yoine no Niza at right, who glares back at him as he holds a lantern out before him. At lower right, the landlord's wife makes a strange grimace as she sits on the ground, a sinister-looking cat peering over her shoulder, while the samurai Kurosawa Gonzo cowers behind Niza, a worried expression on his face. From left, the actors are Arashi Otohachi III, Onoe Shinshichi III, Nakayama Ichizo I, Bando Shuka I, and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII. Nice expressive figures in an atmospheric night setting, with a glowing crescent moon in the night sky framed by willow branches.
