Bando Hikosaburo IV as Tokiyori

Series; Parody of the Thirty-six Poets, 1852

Bando Hikosaburo IV as Tokiyori - Handsome portrait of the former regent Hojo Tokiyori, who became a monk after her retired. He frowns soberly as he looks to the side, his arms firmly folded across his chest. He wears a black robe over a gray kimono and a gray monk's cloth headdress with a lovely burnished pattern of scrolls and leaves. A winter landscape is shown behind him, with snow blanketing the hills and pine trees under a dark gray sky. A fine, sober image, the muted colors reflecting the figure's quiet demeanor. Nice shading on the sky and cloud-like border between the figure and landscape.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Nice detail. A few repairs, a couple light creases.
