Kaga no Chiyo, 1859 - Charming portrait of the eighteenth-century poet Kaga no Chiyo painting verses on folding fans. She kneels next to a low table with a fan and ink stone on it, a brush in one hand and another fan in the other, pausing for a moment to look up over her shoulder. She wears an intricately patterned brown kimono tied with a plum colored obi with a medallion design. The low folding screen behind her features gourds and vines against a woven background. An attractive image, detailed with embossing on the white table and soft shading on the background.
