Prints from the Age of the Samurai - With this group of Edo era prints opening at incentivized low bids, take a moment to be transported back to the age when samurai ruled Japan. During the Tokugawa Shogunate, Japan enjoyed a period of relative peace and prosperity for more than 250 years. Woodblock prints captured scenes from daily life, warriors and battles, the beauties of the Yoshiwara pleasure district, kabuki, and travelers along the Tokaido and Kisokaido roads. Watch for Age of the Samurai prints each week at Fuji Arts.

Segawa Kikunojo V as Ogiya Yugiri and Nakamura Shikan II as Fujiya Izaemon - Handsome kabuki scene featuring Segawa Kikunojo V as the courtesan Ogiya Yugiri and Nakamura Shikan II as Fujiya Izaemon. Disinherited by his family because of his love for Yugiri of the Ogiya Teahouse, Izaemon wanders the streets aimlessly, hoping for a reunion with his lover. After tormenting himself with the thought that she might be entertaining other patrons, he surprises her with a visit to the teahouse. Here, he tugs on the sleeve of the iris patterned kimono she holds, scowling at her angrily. She looks back at him with a sullen frown, her obi loosely wrapped about her waist. Between the pair, a large lacquer box holds a lobster, a miniature pine tree, and a blossoming plum branch. An interesting design.
