Watch for Age of the Samurai prints each week at Fuji Arts.

Scene from Ichi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki, 1831 - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Ichi-no-Tani Futaba Gunki" at the Kawarazaki Theater in Edo. At left, Satsuma no Kami Tadanori looks over his shoulder with an angry frown as he stands beside his horse, the rein in his hand. A blossoming cherry branch with a poem slip attached to it is tucked into the back of his obi. At right, the beauty Kiku no Mae tilts her head with a flirtatious smile, holding what looks like the sleeve from Tadanori's blue and white kimono. She wears a black robe decorated with chrysanthemums and streams, clusters of small flowers adorning her hair. From left, the actors are Sawamura Gennosuke II and Segawa Kikunojo V. Nice expressive figures.
