A Fuji Arts special offer auction

Prints from the Age of the Samurai - With this group of Edo era prints opening at incentivized low bids, take a moment to be transported back to the age when samurai ruled Japan. During the Tokugawa Shogunate, Japan enjoyed a period of relative peace and prosperity for more than 250 years. Woodblock prints captured scenes from daily life, warriors and battles, the beauties of the Yoshiwara pleasure district, kabuki, and travelers along the Tokaido and Kisokaido roads. Watch for Age of the Samurai prints each week at Fuji Arts.

Scene from Hana ni Tori Sakigake Soga, 1832 - Handsome kabuki portrait of Mimasu Gennosuke I as Soga no Juro in "Hana ni Tori Sakigake Soga" at the Nakamura Theater. He looks up from the book he is reading with a distraught expression, his legs beneath a kotatsu, a wooden frame over a hibachi with a blanket draped over the frame to keep in the heat. A small chest on the floor behind him holds a small hibachi with red coals for lighting the slender pipe on the rack. Shimenawa ropes denoting a sacred space hang overhead. A nicely detailed design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 5/8" x 9 7/8"
