Scene from Hatsu momiji ogura no shikishi, 1854

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Hatsu momiji ogura no shikishi" at the Nakamura Theater of Princes Chigusa smiling happily as she looks up, holding one hand out before her. In the center, the samurai Chibara Mikinoshin scowls angrily as he looks up, the koshimoto or lady's maid Saeda kneeling before him. At right, Nagasawa Hayata tugs on Saeda's sleeve, frowning as he watches his fellow samurai. Colorful autumn maple leaves and birds decorate the panels lining the back of the room. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo III, Sawamura Gennosuke III, Otani Tokuji II, and Kataoka Gado II.
