Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Tekomae no Takekichi, 1859

Series; Mirror of Today's Pictures

Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Tekomae no Takekichi, 1859 - Terrific portrait of Ichikawa Hazaemon XIII as Tekomae Takekichi in a series showing actors reflected in ornate black lacquer mirrors wrapped with colorful tie-dyed cloth. He looks solemnly over his shoulder, his lips closed in a slight frown. His hair is pulled back into a topknot that has fallen to the side of his head, his ears visible behind the smooth sides. He wears a boldly patterned black and gray outer kimono, one sleeve pushed down to reveal a red and white tie-dyed under robe, and he carries a folding fan with a peony design. Nicely detailed with burnishing on the black collar and the black areas of the kimono, and delicate embossing on the white cloth around the neck and the white rectangles on the tie-dyed kimono.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 9 1/4"
