Ichikawa Ichizo III as Toraomaru, 1853 - Fantastic image of Ichikawa Ichizo as the young Toraomaru, the king of the tigers. He kneels on the ground, looking up from a scroll with a scowl as a tiger crouches behind him. His kimono is shaded from tan to blue and patterned with plum blossoms, worn over a suit of armor trimmed with fringe. The tiger snarls as it stares ahead, its long tail waving above its back, as a thunderstorm rages overhead. Jagged bolts of lightening zigzag across the dark night sky as gusts of wind and rain sweep over the scene. A terrific, dramatic design, beautifully composed and wonderfully detailed, including embossing in the tiger's white areas of fur.
