Kurofune Chuemon: A Popular Man with All His Heart, 1859

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Kataoka Nizaemon VIII as the commoner Kurofune Chuemon. He looks over his shoulder with a sober frown, lost in thought. One sleeve of his blue tie-dyed summer cotton kimono has been pushed down to the waist, and he holds a fan. A blue and white checked background adds graphic impact. A striking design.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - Good detail. Thinning areas, repaired. A few creases.
