Bando Takesaburo I as Nakano Mitsuyoshi, 1854

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Bando Takesaburo I as Nakano Mitsuyoshi, dressed as a komuso or wandering monk with a shakuhachi flute in one hand and a deep basket hat in the other. He frowns as he looks over his shoulder, his brows slightly furrowed. A bundle wrapped in gray cloth rests on the floor beside him, and colorful chrysanthemums decorate the low folding screen at right. Nice detail in the interior setting.
