Comments - Terrific kabuki scene with a lovely portrait of the courtesan Tamagiku standing behind mosquito netting. She smiles shyly, tilting her head down and clutching her kimono sleeve to her chest as a man holding a lantern gestures for her to stay where she is, a concerned expression on his face. The fellow at left is engrossed in reading a long letter, his brow furrowed as he unrolls the paper, two additional unopened letters lying on the floor before him. A floral kimono hangs on a stand behind him, and a chest can be seen in the background piled with books. The mosquito netting adds a mysterious quality to the beauty, giving her an almost ghostlike appearance through the sheer fabric. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Kodanji IV, Bando Hikosaburo V, and Onoe Kikugoro IV. A handsome design, nicely detailed.
