Comments - Great kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan I as an otokodate or street knight, leaning forward with an angry frown, a fan in one hand and a shakuhachi flute at his back. With his other hand, he lifts the edge of his black kimono, which features cranes in flight and cloth bags tied with cord. The background includes a fan print and other assorted designs with images. The fan print shows a bird perched on a branch, and cleverly includes the artist's signature. A handsome design in an interesting and unusual format.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at right edge, thinning and loss at bottom left, a few wormholes, repaired. Slight soiling and rubbing, a few creases and stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
