Comments - Interesting mitate or imagined kabuki scene of actors in the play "Hatsu-zakura Onoe Iwafuji" at the Ichimura Theater in Edo attending a special exhibition of a religious object at Kinryuzan Temple. The sumo wrestler in the center wears a black kimono patterned with shells featuring Genji symbols. The left panel shows Ichimura Uzaemon XII and Onoe Baiko IV. The second panel from left depicts Ichikawa Danjuro VIII and Onoe Kikugoro III. The third panel from left includes Ichimura Uzaemon XII as Rai Kunitoshi and Bando Shuka I as Meshitsukai Ohatsu. The right panel features Nakamura Utaemon IV as Ishidome Busuke and Onoe Kikujiro II as Oren. Pigeons and sparrows fly overhead and a few chickens peck at the ground as the characters exchange glances, some frowning while others smile. An interesting design with expressive figures.
