Comments - Interesting mitate or imagined kabuki scene of actors in the play "Hatsu-zakura Onoe Iwafuji" at the Ichimura Theater in Edo attending a special exhibition of a religious object at Kinryuzan Temple. The sumo wrestler in the center wears a black kimono patterned with shells featuring Genji symbols. The left panel shows Ichimura Uzaemon XII and Onoe Baiko IV. The center panel depicts Ichikawa Danjuro VIII and Onoe Kikugoro III. The right panel features Nakamura Utaemon IV as Ishidome Busuke and Onoe Kikujiro II as Oren. Pigeons fly overhead as the character exchange glances, some frowning while others smile. An interesting design with expressive figures.
