Usui Sadamitsu Subduing a Wolf, circa 1840

Comments - Fantastic depiction of the samurai Usui Sadamitsu subduing a wolf. One of Minamoto no Yorimitsu's (Raiko's) trusted four retainers, the warrior steps on the animal's back, pinning it to the ground as it bares its fangs. The warrior grips a large wooden post under his arm, his hair blowing wildly around his head as he looks down with an angry scowl. A dynamic design with wonderful detail.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/4"

Condition - Good detail. Backed with paper. A couple small losses, a couple holes, small tear, repaired. A few creases, curling at sides.
