Crowds at the Senso Temple, High in the Mountains, 1856

Comments - Handsome triptych depicting a group of actors offstage in their leisure time, paying a visit to Senso Temple in Edo. In the center, a rather confused-looking man in a brown and gray striped coat points at the poem slips hanging from a blossoming cherry tree. The women at right watch him with amusement, one giggling into her kimono sleeve as they pause beside a large stone marker. In the background at upper left, two samurai wearing masks dance about, enjoying themselves as other passersby look on. An attractive scene with soft bokashi shading on the background.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 3/8" x 29" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. A couple light creases at edges and small repairs.
