Rebuilding Kiyosu Castle, 1849

Comments - Intriguing triptych showing the legendary rebuilding of Kiyosu Castle in three days under the direction of Kinoshita Tokichiro (the future Toyotomi Hideyoshi). At lower left, dozens of men push carts of timber across the bridge to the castle, which is covered with scaffolding. At bottom center, Hideyoshi kneels before Lord Oda Nobunaga, who sits astride a dappled horse at right, surrounded by his retainers and a falconer. To circumvent censorship rules, the protagonists here are called Lord Ota Harunaga and Nakaura Sarukichiro. An amazing wealth of detail in this panoramic image.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 29 1/2"

Condition - Nice detail. Backed with paper. A few wormholes, repaired. Slight rubbing at edges.
