Comments - Fantastic Kuniyoshi triptych of the samurai Yamamoto Kansuke reporting details of the enemy's movements to General Takeda Shingen during the Battle of Kawanakajima. One of Shingen's' trusted "Twenty-four Generals," Kansuke kneels on the rocky shore of the river before his master, who sits on a folding stool surrounded by retainers. Shingen wears a fantastic horned battle helmet with a demon head and shaggy white wig, and he holds a battle fan and a string of prayer beads. Kansuke wears a sashimono or standard featuring a centipede, a device worn by all of Shingen's messengers to make them easily identifiable. The water ripples in undulating waves behind them. A great scene with wonderful detail in the setting, armor, and facial expressions.
