Meizan of the Chojiya

Comments - Terrific portrait of the courtesan Meizan of the Chojiya enjoying a stroll with her kamuro or child apprentices. Her outer kimono is patterned with grasses and border with an olive green and brown plaid fabric, her bright pink obi decorated with stylized butterfliers. A low fence behind them encloses blossoming cherry trees. A classic Edo era beauty portrait by a rarely seen artist.
