Kotoba no Hana Momiji no Yozakari, 1847 - 1852

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kotoba no Hana Momiji no Yozakari" of samurai subduing a guard, forcing him to the ground and twisting his arm behind his back as his legs flail in the air. The guard has grabbed the end of a beauty's obi, but she smiles slyly as she looks over her shoulder, seemingly unconcerned about the struggle taking place. At left, a commoner has grabbed another guard by the back of his neck. Foliage runs across the background beneath the softly shaded night sky. Nice expressive figures.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 29 3/8"

Condition - Good detail. Vertical folds, diagonal fold at corner. A few wormholes and holes, repaired. A few creases at edges.
