Beauty and Arguing Men

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty between two men arguing. The fellow at left stares at his companion with an angry frown, while the mana t right grimaces back at him. He rests one elbow atop a go board, a fan in his hand. The woman smiles coyly as she tilts her head, seemingly unaware of the conflict between the men. She wears a black kimono with a burnished pattern over a red under robe, her hair simply arranged in a smooth bun with a comb and a couple hairpins. Ichikawa Dannosuke plays the beauty and Kataoka Gado is the man at right. Nice large expressive figures set against a softly shaded night sky. Includes a dusting of mica across the top of the right panel.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8"x 19 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Slight separation at ends of vertical folds at sides, repaired. A few ripples at edges.
