Chiyo no haru tosa-e no saya-ate, 1861

Comments - Intriguing scene of Nakamura Shikan IV as Shimobe Sanjiro emerging from bundles of rice stalks draped over bamboo poles to dry in the kabuki play "Chiyo no haru tosa-e no saya-ate" at the Ichimura Theater in Edo. His lifts his hat above his head as he steps through the grain, frowning angrily, wearing a blue coat over a green print kimono and tie-dyed under robe, and tie-dyed leggings. A pine tree frames the night sky above. An interesting setting, nicely detailed.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 9 3/8"

Condition - Nice detail. Backed with paper, horizontal and vertical centerfolds, wrinkling throughout, slight curling.
