Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Date moyo somete kisaragi" at the Nakamura Theater in Edo. At left, Kihachi's younger sister Otsuyu holds out a cup of sake, tilting her head and smiling sweetly at her brother. In the center, tabakoya (tobacco shop) Kihachi reacts with a worried expression, a bottle in one hand and a cloth in the other. At right, the samurai Masaki Kiyosaburo watches the couple with a sober expression as he pats the side of his head, his sword in hand. A tobacco set rests on the floor by his feet, and boldly patterned tie-dyed curtains hang in the doorway at top center. From left, the actors are Iwai Kumesaburo II, Ichikawa Danzo VI, and Arashi Hinasuke VII. Nice expressive figures in well-detailed setting.
