Beauties on a Pleasure Boat at New Year's, 1853

Comments - Charming scene of beauties boarding a pleasure boat. The woman in the center smiles as she looks back at her companion, a toothpick in her mouth. The beauty at left lifts the edge of her robe as she stands on the dock while a boatman holds the end of the vessel. At right, a branch decorated for the New Year with lucky objects such as Daikoku's magic mallet, money, and a radish rests atop the cabin of the boat. In the distance at top center, people can be seen on the verandah of an upper story, red lanterns hanging from the eaves of the building. The first time we've seen this interesting design.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 29 5/8" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal centerfold. A few repairs, creasing throughout.
