Shelter from the Rain - Wonderful kabuki scene of actors portraying characters from a variety of different plays. They are shown seeking shelter from the rain under a huge tree. In the center, a nobleman fans himself inside his palanquin, while a porter at left sits on his cargo, taking the opportunity to smoke a pipe. A beauty crouches at the base of the tree at right, her kimono bordered with dancing foxes, the young samurai beside her holding his hat over his head. Starting with the left panel, the actors are Seki Sanjuro III (seated), Sawamura Chojuro V (standing at left), and Nakayama Ichizo (right); center panel: Morita Kanya XI (in palanquin), Bando Hikosaburo IV (left), and Onoe Baiko IV (right); and right panel: Ichimura Uzaemon XII (standing at left), Bando Shuka I (seated woman) and Nakamura Utaemon IV (right).
