Comments - Beautiful triptych of Prince Genji looking at scrolls and books presented to him by several beauties. He sits at right, wearing a striking black coat patterned with herons, smiling as a woman unrolls a landscape scroll on the floor before him. A young man kneels in the center looking up eagerly, the woman behind him carrying out a black lacquer box. At left, a beauty in a blue kimono bordered with irises pushes a lacquer cart stacked with books. The interior is beautifully decorated with panels at left depicting wisteria blossoms, a chest with a large floral pattern at top center, and drapery at right with a design of phoenixes and clouds. A lovely design, detailed with light embossing on the herons, embossing on the white kimono collars and trim, and burnishing on the black kimono and lacquer furnishings.
