Comments - Beautiful triptych of actors offstage strolling past an enormous old plum tree at night. Iwai Hanshiro stands in the center, lifting the edge of his blue outer kimono with one hand as he looks over his shoulder with a somewhat surprised expression. The beauty at left smiles back at him, dressed in a kimono shaded from gray to plum, with a border of folded origami papers. A young girl waits at her side, the sleeves of her blue kimono trimmed with bows. The delicate white plum blossoms contrast beautifully with the dark night sky, the rugged trunk of the tree rendered in bold calligraphic strokes. A beautiful subject with soft shading and fine detail in the elegant kimono fabrics.
