Original Kunisada (1786 - 1864) Japanese Woodblock Print
Actors along the Sumida River in Winter, 1856

Comments - Fantastic five-panel kabuki print depicting five actors walking through the snow along the Sumida River embankment. The fellow at far right carries a wooden bucket and clutches a dotted towel, a green robe draped over his shoulder. The beauty behind him smiles happily at her companions over her shoulder. Many boats can be seen on the water behind them, with buildings lining the opposite shore and the rooftops of two temples rising above the snow covered pines. A great image with expressive figures and fine shading in the water and evening sky.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 48" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal centerfold, vertical folds at sides. Loss and thinning at edges, repaired. A few creases, slight rubbing.
