Ichimojiya Otaki and Genroku in Kanadehon Chushingura, 1849

Comments - Interesting scene from the kabuki play "Kanadehon Chushingura" at the Kawarazaki Theater in Edo, the famous drama about the 47 ronin. Here, the beauty Ichimojiya Otaki sits on the floor with a pipe in hand looking over her shoulder with a slight smile, a tobacco set, a roll of tissues, and a tiny cup on the floor before her. Beside her, Genroku gestures with his hand as he leans forward with a strange grimace. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Shinsha I and Asao Tamejuro IV. Expressive figures in a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 10 1/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal centerfold. Slight thinning at edges, repaired. Creasing throughout.
