Series; A Joruri Performance of The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers
A Joruri Performance of The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers - Handsome group portrait from Kunisada II's series "A Joruri Performance of The Storehouse of Loyal Retainers." Each print features two or three actors in the kabuki play "Chushingura Sugata no Eawase," at the Ichimura Theater, a drama about the famous 47 ronin. A joruri is a ballad drama that features chanted narration accompanied by shamisen. The expressive figures are framed by the ronin's traditional dogtooth border, and the title cartouche takes the form of a book. An interesting and rarely seen series.
