Series; Eight Views of Omi

Returning Sails at Yabase, 1847 - 1852 - Lovely scene of Prince Genji and two beauties in a mansion overlooking the water at Yabase. He relaxes on the floor in an elegant floral kimono, grinning up at his companion. She smiles back at him, holding one sleeve of her gray print kimono to her chest. In the room at right, a courtesan peers around a sliding panel with a design of swallows and a flowering cherry branch. She holds the edges of her robe together with one hand, a roll of tissues in her mouth. Her hair is pulled back into two smooth knots, adorned with a comb and several hairpins. Outside, ships are returning for the evening as the sun sets, a rosy glow spreading along the horizon. A handsome triptych with wonderful detail.
