Colors of Spring: Playing with Flowers in the Wine Vat, 1862 - Terrific scene of Prince Genji watching as two young girls float toys on water in a large blue and white ceramic wine vat. He smiles with amusement as the children lean over the edge of the ornate container supported by three figurines. At right, a beauty giggles into her kimono sleeve as she observes the girls playing. The woman kneeling at left holds out an open box, looking up with an eager smile. She wears a lovely kimono shaded from red to green with a design of flowering plum trees. The scene is framed by blossoming cherry trees, and the room opens onto a view of the water beyond. A beautiful image with light embossed detail on the white lining of Genji's kimono and his fan.
