Nakamura Shikan as Takeda Katsuyori

Comments - Handsome kabuki portrait of Nakamura Shikan as the young samurai Takeda Katsuyori, who joins the household of Princess Yaegaki, disguised as a gardener, in an attempt to retrieve a precious Takeda helmet in the possession of the princess's father. Here, he looks up with a rather evil grin as red foxfires dance in the night sky, the sign of a supernatural occurrence. He wears a blue kamishimo patterned with chrysanthemums, the long pants trailing beneath his feet, over a matching kimono in lighter blue. A great design with soft shading and a dusting of mica across the top of the sky.

Artist - Kuniaki (active circa 1844 - 1868)

Image Size - 14 /14" x 9 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - Good detail. A few creases at edges and repairs.
