Scene from Tsukimi no Hare Meiga no Ichijiku, 1862 - Intriguing kabuki scene from the play "Tsukimi no Hare Meiga no Ichijiku" at the Ichimura Theater featuring the beauty Hanshiro Okoru and two men in an interior. Oroku sits beside a hibachi with a kettle over glowing coals. She turns her head away from the men, smiling dreamily as she looks over her shoulder. The commoner Danshichi sits at left, rubbing his ankle as he stares straight ahead, much to the dismay of the angry Kojigoku Onizo standing at center. He scowls at the fellow, his brows furrowed as he grips a blue towel draped over his shoulder. A wooden stairway leads to an upper level, and softly shaded curtains hang in the doorway. From left, the actors are Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, Seki Sanjuro III, and Iwai Kumesaburo III. An interesting triptych with expressive faces and fine detail in the household setting.
