Courtesan in a Lion Kimono and Samurai Chichibu Shigetada

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of the samurai Chichibu Shigetada standing in the center with an umbrella over his shoulder, frowning as he suspiciously eyes the courtesan at right. She turns her head away, hiding behind her raised sleeve the scroll in her hand unrolls, falling to the ground. She wears a striking black outer kimono featuring a lion and pink peonies, bordered with a blue wave print. At left, a shirabyoshi dancer looks up as she holds a hand drum. Blue stripes run across the top of the scene, adding graphic impact. A handsome design.
