Prince Genji and Beauty Doing Origami, 1869

Comments - Charming scene of Prince Genji and beauties in an interior. In the center, a woman looks up at the nobleman with a smile as she holds a piece of origami her hands. Sheets of paper, a pair of scissors, and completed objects rest on the floor before her, including a box and a frog. Her kimono is shaded from red to light blue with a wisteria pattern. Genji grins down at her as he holds a doll or a young child in his outstretched hand. At right, two kneeling women watch with eager smiles. At top center, an alcove holds a flower arrangement in a basin of water, with stacks of lacquer boxes to the right. A folding fan at left is decorated with a blossoming cherry tree. A lovely design, detailed with light embossing on the white kimono collars and trim.
