Series; An Illustrated History of Japan, 1849 - 1850

Accompanied by the Turtle, Urashima Enters the Land of Immortals, 1849 - 1850 - Fantastic image from the tale of the young fisherman Urashima Taro and the Dragon Palace. After rescuing a turtle from children who were teasing it, the creature rewarded him with a visit to the Dragon Palace under the sea, where the turtle turned out to be the Dragon Princess. Here, she gestures to the kingdom in the distance beyond towering waves as Urashima watches with a dazed expression, shielding his eyes with his hand. The first time we've offered this striking and rare Hiroshige design.

Image Size - 8 3/4" x 13 1/2" + margins as shown
