A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

The Kyoka Tokaido - After the incredible success of his original "Hoeido or Great Tokaido" in the early 1830s, Hiroshige released several other series illustrating life along the famed Tokaido Road. He designed this chuban-sized series in the late 1830s - early 1840s, published by Sanoki. Each design features a comic poem called a "kyoka," so the series is called the "Kyoka Tokaido." It is sometimes known as the "Sanoki Tokaido" after the publisher. A great look at travelers making this historic journey in nineteenth-century Japan, featuring striking scenic views and more intimate scenes of life along the Tokaido. This charming series is rarely seen.
