A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Narihira's Journey to the East: Passing Mount Fuji, 1845 - 1846 - Terrific kakemono or vertical diptych of the ninth-century nobleman Ariwara no Narihira, one of Japan's Famous "Six Immortal Poets," passing Mt. Fuji as he travels eastward. He rides a dappled horse, accompanied by a page carrying his sword and a palace guard holding his standard, which is wrapped protectively in cloth. Mt. Fuji rises majestically in the distance, its peak covered with snow and clouds encircling its base. A pine tree with ivy trailing over its rugged trunk frames the scene. A handsome design.
