Original Eisen (1790 - 1848) Japanese Woodblock Print
Beauty with an Umbrella Pillar Print

Comments - Beautiful design of a beauty carrying an umbrella as raindrops slant across the sky. She wears a green kimono bordered with maple leaves over a tie-dyed red under robe lined in light blue, tied with a black obi. The pattern of the umbrella and the obi and lower portion of the kimono lead the eye down the page in graceful curves. Called hashira-e, pillar prints were designed to fit the wooden posts inside homes, and are rare on the market because of their original use. Nicely composed to fit the narrow format.

Artist - Eisen (1790 - 1848)

Image Size - 23" x 3 5/8"

Condition - Good detail. Horizontal folds. A couple small losses (including on face), a few holes, repaired.
